Step back in time and experience the Bay of Islands onboard the unique tall ship "R. Tucker Thompson," built by local Northlanders in the tradition of an 18th century working ship.
Your day sail is as interactive as you choose - help set the sails, ride the bowsprit and climb the rigging or sit back, relax and watch the crew command this stunning sailing ship. There is something inspiring about following the footsteps of the Maori and European settlers to the Bay of Islands, while sailing across the waters on a replica of an historic sailing ship. Enjoy a Devonshire tea freshly made in the ship's galley, while sailing across the sheltered waters of the Bay. At lunchtime the vessel anchors in a secluded bay. Step ashore, take a swim or try swinging from the yardarm while the onboard chef prepares lunch.
The Late Afternoon Sail onboard the R Tucker Thompson is a special experience.
On this unique sailing ship view secluded islands as the ship sails across the sheltered waters of the Bay. Enjoy an antipasto platter and glass of wine as sun starts to set in the west. NB: Antipasto platters are shared amongst the group. Wine and other beverages are not included in the price and can be purchased from the cash bar.
Between May and November The R. Tucker Thompson sail training trust offers a range of learning experiences delivered from the deck of a tall ship. These fantastic opportunities allow people to get a personal experience of sailing a tall ship within the comfort of the Northland Coast. These include:
Youth sail training programmes: A 7-day programme designed providing life skills to young people aged 13 - 18. Voyages are designed to instil confidence, build teamwork, improve communication, and develop leadership skills. For more information Youth Sail Training Programmes.

The remain profits support youth sail training. Bay of Islands Eco-sail
