• Bay of Islands Wildlife

From marine mammals to native birds, the Bay of Islands is teeming with animal life

Thanks to its subtropical climate and pristine, sheltered waters, the Bay of Islands is a haven for wildlife. With a resident dolphin population estimated to be 500 strong, the Bay of Islands is one of the best places in New Zealand to view wild dolphins and migratory whales year-round.

The marine mammal guide to the right provides an indication of some of the species likely to be seen during our cruises and is based on data collected by our crews over the past eight years.
